A Writer, a Snow Day and a Beach

There I was, sitting at home with the kids. It was a school morning so they should have been in school but they weren't. The half an inch of snow on the ground had caused the school system to call my home telephone number at 5:30 in the morning to announce school would be delayed by two hours.

I'd just finished reading an email from a friend who was raving about the unseasonably beautiful weather they've been having in New York.

That's wonderful, I thought as I contemplated my heavy duty wool hiking socks and tried to decide whether I could manage to type in gloves (maybe the fingerless ones??).

Upstairs was chaos. Despite the fact that there are four bathrooms in this house, theoretically enough for EVERYONE in the family to use a bathroom at the same time, an argument had broken out about locked doors and unfair access. Three minutes later, Child #2 came into my office to tell me he thought his bones might be inflamed and Child #1 came in to aggressively hug me.

The prospect of editing Losing Hope all day was holding about as much appeal as, well, an inflammation of the bones.

That's when it hit me. Everyone was ready for a vacation!

Lucky for me Spring Break is next week and we are going somewhere warmer than here. There will definitely be a beach and quite possibly a theme park. I have a sparkly gold pedicure and it will not be covered by thick wool hiking socks.

The one thing there won't be is blogging. I'll miss you. But you'll be here when I get back, right! ;)

See you in a week, or so...

Hey, Johanna,

Sounds like you all need the sun and sea. I highly recommend it.

If you are in the Orlando area, let me know. I would love to meet another blogger buddy. Last year I was fortunate enough to meet four.

This year I would like to double that number. I will be meeting Marcy from Msmatch sometime next week in Orlando. I can't wait... such fun.

If your time is limited, no prob, HAVE A GREAT VACATION!

Enjoy your break. It sounds like you live somewhere near me as we are having the same weather, though school has been on time anyway, thank goodness, after they lost 4 days to snow in January. My son will be in school most of June for that. Have fun in the sun!!!

Sounds like that is exactly what you need! Go and enjoy.

Oh, man--this weather is nuts, eh? Here in Michigan we've broken record after record for an unseasonably warm March--It was 86 yesterday.

Glad you get to get away from the Oregon weather misery.

I couldn't believe the day before spring break we got a late start, FOR SNOW! Oh well. Love the gloves. ;0)

And have FUN on your Vaca!

Have a fabulous trip! I'll be thinking of you at the beach, in the sun, your bare feet in the sand. Jealous!

Have a wonderful vacation!
I have another whole week to go before Spring Break. And that week includes parent conferences. Monday I work from 8am to 7pm straight through.

I hate next week already.

Hi Michael, I would have loved that but I don't think we'll have the time! But definitely another time!!

Shell, I can't complain too much. This was our first snow day.

Thanks Alex!

Hart, right. Remember those nasty Oregon "springs"

Jenny, it was a bit of a downer, wasn't it.

Thank you Emily!

Dianne, yikes! All that, blogging and writing too. I'm really impressed!!

Snow days...arguments over bathrooms (even though there's enough for one each)...yep, I feel your pain!

Hope you have a fabulous trip and unwind a bit.

Have a great trip. It's been 80 degrees in Ohio over the last week. I got a sunburn today and had to buy new shorts for my kids when snow should still be on the ground. I wonder if the summer weather will be as bizarre too.

Enjoy the vacation Johanna!
We have definitely been having unseasonably mild weather here in NJ. It feels like we didn't have a winter this year.

Have a wonderful time. Sounds like you could all use it.
I just told my other half that you have four bathrooms and I swear he salivated. He has to share with three females :-)

Hope you're relaxing and soaking up the sun. It's been wonderful weather in London and I'll send some rays your way!

Don't feel bad about missing the unusually warm weather. We had a week of super-high temperatures that brought out all the flowers two months early. Now the temperature is back to the thirties. So our winter without snow may be followed by a spring without leaves (or fruit).

I blogged about Losing Beauty today--fantastic book. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

Hope you're enjoying your spring break! Somewhere warm sounds lovely.

Your kid cracks me up, too-- inflamed bones, huh? lol
